ARCHITECTURE
Design Team:
Enrique Norten, Hon. FAIA – TEN Arquitectos, is the lead planner and architect for this project. In the past two decades, Mr. Norten’s projects have been recognized with numerous awards, such as the 2009 Institute Merit Design Award from the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter for the Xochimilco Master Plan and Aquarium (Mexico City, Mexico) and a National 2009 Institute Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design from the American Institute of Architects for the Orange County Great Park (Irvine, CA).
Enrique Norten has extensive library design experience, having won the international competition to design the new Brooklyn Public Library and participated in competitions for additions to the Philadelphia Free Library and the New Rochelle Public Library.
TEN Arquitectos will be responsible for the architectural design – the look and feel – of both projects. They will be assisted by two local architecture firms:
WDG Architecture, a DC-based (Ward 2), CBE-certified firm will be the local architect of record and responsible for coordinating all the construction drawings on the project and working with the builder to bring it out of the ground. WDG has successfully partnered with other well known architecture and design firms in a manner similar to how they will interact with TEN Arquitectos on this project.
Lemay Erickson Willcox is a DC FEMS-approved architecture firm that specializes in fire station layout and design. L.E.W. recently completed the first mixed-use residential/fire station project in the region (at Potomac Yards in Alexandria) and will be working closely with TEN Arquitectos to design the inside of the station and ensure that it is can work independently of, while connected to, the residential building above.
